April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Every April, Dunebrook joins with communities around the nation to rally support for child abuse prevention. Child abuse thrives in secrecy, so the message needs to be heard, “If you know something, say something!”

We are partnering with Al’s Supermarkets, Kabelin’s Ace, Leed’s Public House and others who believe that keeping children safe is a top priority for our community.

An online auction, along with retail merchant and restaurant give backs, are in the works. We look forward to sharing more about the issues, our work and how you can get involved in giving children happy, healthy and safe childhoods.

We will be sharing more information about Dunebrook’s April activities and Child Abuse Prevention Month through social media, enews and area media outlets.

If you are concerned for a child’s safety, call Indiana’s Child Abuse hotline at 800/800-5556. You do not have to prove that abuse exists, just state what you know. Calls may be made anonymouslyIf you know a child who is in immediate danger, call 911.

My Healthy Baby

Have you noticed the new My Healthy Baby billboards around LaPorte County? This billboard blitz is part of the State’s efforts to wrap supports around expectant moms and babies to improve birth outcomes.

Indiana has one of the highest infant mortality rates in our nation. A baby born in Cuba, Latvia or

Malta has a stronger chance of surviving his or her first year of life than a baby born in LaPorte County, Indiana.

Dunebrook is proud to be one of My Healthy Baby’s partners in helping guide and support expectant moms through the joy, overwhelm and anticipation of pregnancy and delivery, and being there for parents as they welcome their baby into their lives.

Thank You NAP Donors!

Thank you, NAP donors! You helped us reach our goal to raise $16,644 for Dunebrook’s Healthy Families program!

This unique program distributes state income tax credits that enable donors to reduce their taxes. The tax credit is equal to one-half of your gift, So, as the size of your gift grows, so does the savings on your taxes.

Here is how it works: You make a gift to Dunebrook’s NAP program of $500. You receive a $250 state income tax credit.

Gifts of $100 or more may qualify for NAP credits. You don’t have to file any extra documents with your return – just let your preparer know to give you the credit. It is that simple!

Issued by the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority, these credits are awarded in early summer through a competitive process.

Donors who participate in the NAP program provide financial support for our work in wrapping parenting supports and education around new parents and families. Our highly skilled and caring Family Support Specialists meet weekly with families to listen and answer questions, and share important information about child development, safe sleep, nutrition and self-care. We also join in learning activities and gift books to children.

Watch for us to share information when the next cycle of tax credits becomes available.
