Firefighters Bring Thanksgiving to Dunebrook Families

Michigan City, IN – Nov. 21, 2017 – Michigan City Firefighters Union Local 475 is making Thanksgiving brighter for 36 local families served by Dunebrook. Firefighters delivered two truckloads of meals, each complete with a turkey, milk, eggs, butter and all of the trimmings for a traditional Thanksgiving feast. Matt Zawacki of Dunebrook coordinated the donation with the firefighters and commented, “Nothing compares to seeing a child’s face light up when we arrive at their home with this holiday feast.”

Executive Jeanne Ann Cannon adds, “We are so touched that our firefighters wanted to do this for our families, just as they did last year. Everyday, we see in the families we serve how hard they are working to be great parents and support their families, and it means so much to them that others care.” Cannon continues, “Our firefighters already give of themselves every day by risking their lives for our community’s safety, yet they still think of others.” The firefighters shopped for, packaged and distributed the meals to Dunebrook so they can be given to families before the holiday.

Firefighter Mike Neulieb said that this year they are donating holiday meals to five organizations, including Dunebrook. “We just want to be sure that families who may not have had a chance to celebrate the holiday with healthy food now can enjoy it and give their children a great Thanksgiving,” Neulieb said.
