Chicago's Famed Second City comes to Michigan CityOn July 31, 2010, Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre The Second City will appear at Elston Middle School Performing Arts Center, 1210 Spring Street, Michigan City, Indiana at 7:30 p.m. for a fund raising event to benefit The Young People’s Theatre Company and Dunebrook, both of Michigan City. The performance will feature some of the best sketches, songs, and improvisations from The Second City’s fifty year history. The Second City is truly a Chicago landmark and a national treasure.
On December 16, 2009, The Second City celebrates 50 years of cutting edge satiric revues as well as the launching pad for generations of comedy superstars. The Second City continues to develop the leading voices in comedy while touring the globe. Founded in Chicago in 1959, The Second City has become the premier training ground for the comedy worlds best and brightest. Their alumni list reads like a who’s who of American comedy, as it includes: Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Robert Klein, Peter Boyle, Harold Ramis, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, George Wendt, Martin Short, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Tim Meadows, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Horatio Sanz, Ryan Stiles and countless others.
The cast scheduled to perform at the YPTC and Dunebrook fundraiser includes Kate Duffy (Chicago), Shad Kunkle (Iowa), Mark Piebenga (Grand Rapids, MI), Katie Rich (Chicago), and Tim Stoltenberg (Atlanta, GA). The Director is Sean Cusick (Chicago), the Music Director is Chuck Malone (Calumet City, IL), and the Stage Manager is Meghan Teal (Baltimore, MA). The cast will aim their views at local Michigan City events and issues, as well as recent national and international events. Therefore, this one night performance is not recommended for pre-teens or anyone who is easily offended.
Not only will an evening with The Second City provide audiences with the chance to see comedy stars in the making, but they will also have the opportunity to see absolutely hilarious satire and cutting-edge improvisation. No topic or subject matter is off limits for The Second City. If your parents asked you not to speak about it at the dinner table, chances are it will be made fun of in an evening with The Second City.
Tickets for The Second City 50th Anniversary Tour performance in Michigan City are Adults $20 and Students with ID $10 and can be obtained by calling the Elston Middle School Performing Arts Center at 219-873-2070.
