Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training – Facilitated by Dunebrook

Stewards of Children is a prevention education program that works to inform and assist adults in recognizing and understanding the signs of abuse in children and also how to prevent abuse from happening. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult’s job.

What is the impact of child sexual abuse?

Child sexual abuse is likely the most prevalent health problem children face, with the most serious array of consequences. In fact, 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday.

Chances are someone you know has been impacted. Research shows that people who are sexually violated as children are far more likely to experience psychological problems often lasting into adulthood, including post-traumatic stress syndrome, depression, suicide, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, school dropout and relationship problems.

This means that whether you work with youth, are a parent, or are simply a member of a community, it is highly likely that someone you know or care for has experienced, or is currently experiencing, child sexual abuse. It’s going to happen whether you are prepared to deal with it or not – unless you stop it from happening. And the good news, it can be stopped.

Adult education is an essential part in preventing child sexual abuse.

How is this program different from others?

Stewards of Children is a nationally accredited program scientifically proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors. Appropriate for any adult, this training will teach you how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Stewards of Children is a two hour interactive training that uses real stories from survivors who lived through child sexual abuse, experienced its immediate and long-term effects, and ultimately were able to find healing.

During the training you will also listen to experts who work with children and families, and confront abuse on a daily basis. Many of these survivors and experts are also parents themselves. Using an interactive workbook and video, the group has the opportunity to learn about proactive steps that can be taken to protect children and then engage with other group members to brain storm how to apply these steps in their community.
